Frequently Asked Questions

Still unsure?

I've gathered some of the questions I hear most often, in hopes they'll answer some of yours too. My goal is to offer clarity and transparency from the start. Take a look through, and if anything's still on your mind, I'd love to hear from you!

My standard rate is $200 per 50-minute session. To help make therapy more accessible, I also hold a limited number of sliding-scale spots, with rates determined based on individual financial need. These spots vary and change over time, so I encourage you to reach out even if you're unsure of availability, just mention your interest in a sliding-scale rate in your inquiry, and I'll do my best to accommodate you.
This is a quick phone call, a chance for me to hear a little about what you're looking for, and for you to get a feel for my style and approach. Since this work is so relational, it's important that we both feel like we can move forward together, and that starts with this first point of connection. If it doesn't feel like the right fit, I'm happy to offer other referrals that may serve you better.

If you fill out the contact form, I'll follow up by email to find a time that works for both of us. You're also welcome to reach out directly by email, text, or phone. If you reach my voicemail, please leave your name and a brief reason for calling, and I'll get back to you within 48 hours.
Our first full session is about getting to know each other. We'll go a bit deeper into what brought you to therapy, building on whatever we touched on during your consultation, but at whatever level of detail feels comfortable for you. No real "work" happens in this session, it's about building the foundation of our relationship together.

I don't expect you to feel completely safe with me right away, and that's okay. Trust is something I work to earn over time, not something I assume from the start. We'll take it from there, together.
No, this is a cash-pay private practice, and I don't personally work with or communicate with insurance companies. However, I'm happy to provide a monthly superbill at the end of each month, which you can submit to your insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
A superbill is a detailed receipt I provide that includes information your insurance company needs to process an out-of-network reimbursement request, things like the date of service and a diagnosis code. You pay the full agreed-upon rate we set directly to me, and then you submit the superbill to your insurance company yourself. If your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, your insurer may reimburse you directly for a portion of the cost. Reimbursement amounts vary by plan and aren't guaranteed, so I'd recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to ask about your specific out-of-network benefits before relying on this option.
Sessions are 50 minutes. I ask that we meet weekly for the first four weeks, so we can strengthen our relational foundation. This is important, since the first month is primarily spent getting to know you, and less about creating lasting change. After that, based on your personal goals and needs, we'll collaborate on whether to continue meeting weekly or shift to a longer interval, like biweekly or monthly. Session frequency isn't fixed, it often changes throughout the course of therapy, and it's something we'll continue to revisit together as we go.
At the moment, I'm only seeing clients virtually. I'm actively working toward a more permanent in-person solution, so this may change in the future, but for now, all sessions are conducted over telehealth.
I ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule, since that time is held just for you. If a cancellation comes in with less notice than that, or if more than 15 minutes pass without you showing up, the full session fee will apply. I know life happens, so if something comes up, just reach out as soon as you can.
I understand it may feel like 15 minutes isn't enough time to determine this. I can best describe it as two main things I'm looking for in the conversation: whether your needs line up with my areas of expertise, and how comfortable I'm able to make you feel talking to me. This work is relational at its core, so it's important that you feel able to open up about things that may have been hard to share with anyone else. My advice is for you to focus on how the connection feels, and let me focus on whether your needs fit within my scope, as that's my job, not yours. And of course, if you ever have questions about my background or experience, I'm always happy to answer them directly.
Yes, with a few limited legal exceptions, like risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else, or situations involving abuse. These exceptions are covered in detail in the consent paperwork you'll review before we begin working together, but the short version is: what we discuss stays between us.
Honestly, this is a very subjective question, it depends entirely on your personal goals and needs, and that timeline can shift as we go. Session frequency (weekly, biweekly, or monthly) often plays a role here too, and that's something we'll continue to revisit together throughout our work. Therapy also doesn't have to be all-or-nothing: if life gets in the way or you feel ready for a pause, we can revisit and pick back up later, availability permitting. All of this is part of our collaborative process, there's no fixed timeline, we shape it together as we go.
Then welcome! I feel honored you found your way here. You don't need any previous experience, and you're not behind. Just let me know, so I can be more intentional about explaining each part of the process, and we'll walk through it together.

Happy to answer any further questions you may have.
